This year the O.A.C. has decided to hold its annual art Auction titled “Art on the Move” in San Fran. I’m working on a little sumthin sumthin for Tanner & Clay. It just so happens i was floored by the North Pacific Gyre when i watched a show called TOXIC. The amount of garbage that collects in the ocean is the size of TEXAS.HOW could this BE? I decided to see how i could really stop buying plastic,I mean its completely man made and can not biodegrade back to nature..it biodegrade back to bits of plastic that look like plankton and then our fish eat it and who doesn’t love sushi..completing the circle of we make shit we eat shit! SO i will always do this show it’s important to me as well as my Husband Jeff Lawter, who is amazing and super creative being & a very good friend of ours Jimmy Rodriguez, also super creative.

Its time… for the 2011 5 year anniversary “Sea No Evil” show to support the Sea Shepherd which you can catch on the show “whale wars”. I donate the entire piece to the cause . This is my 3Rd year supporting..pressure is on to make something cool . Last year i did my “trojan whalicorn” piece that went to a lucky auctioneer . in 2010 the event raised over 83,000.00 its a pretty cool show to go to and worth the drive out to Riverside for all you LA peeps. anyhow stay tuned for what im up too for that.

I’m working on a new peice for the the 3 year anniversary show for the C.A.V.E. gallery this May and its also going to be the Venice Beach art walk which im excited about and as i sit down to work my mind has been focused on the people in Japan and what this means for the future . These images i posted have left me feeling sad for the people who have lost everything . i think about what i COULD do..what action i can take . The red cross has brilliant use of technology, & made it real easy to donate . It has made me feel connected to what was happening. Here’s the info to do the same. Every little bit we give can help someone else. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 . We all share the earth and over the pacific ocean by tomorrow am the tradewinds will have brought the radio activitiy to California. Try and understand that this could have happened anywhere. GIVE!

I’m working on a piece for an upcoming show for a non profit organization called Oceanic Awareness Collaboration. If you havent heard of the garbage mass that floats in the North pacific gyre I think you should get informed and watch this series called Toxic . the Northern Gyre in the Pacific Ocean, a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade. I watched this a few years ago and it blew my mind and changed my life. So i was asked to participate and paint something for this show and i jumped on board…

Come SEPTEMBER 2011 The HIVE Gallery downtown will host my 1st SOLO show of 2011. I’ve been working on a bunch of new ideas for the last few months and i’m very excited about the show. The Title of the show is called Broken Dreams & Fairy Wings. The images that keep coming to mind are innocence in the face of total destruction. I just finished the 3rd piece in the series called “the great gumball incident” its a piece dedicated to clear cutting. over the next few months there will be a lot to follow. Mean time i’m switching gears back to plush for a quick xmas show ;) more to come

The show was a success as you can see in the above photos that were generously taken by my friend Brian Viveros who lives out in Riverside,CA. I hope people had an excellent time and that the traffic from the XGAMES didnt mess up your ride too much. Above look at the stoked guy who bid and won on Trojan Whaleicorn ! Congrats i’m curious who got squid vicious and what the final prices wound up being. please drop me a line let me know if you saw that info ;) thanks again ..ps keep your eyes peeled for a my solo show coming up down at the HIVE GALLERY downtown in March 2011 :)

FROM THE ART DESK OF RENEE LAWER : This is the piece i’m creating special for the Sea No Evll Show this Saturday . Its called “TROJAN WHALEICORN” . In the piece you see a Wooden Trojan Whale floating out of the dark cloud of oil only to be greeted by Jelly fish , whom have no natural preditors and live symbiotic with other sea life. There are so many species of jelly fish and i find them so beautiful. I have never been stung nor do i wish too but i wonder what it feel like. Here’s more info on jellyfish or i like to refer to mine as Sir Jellies. With the BP Oil Leak I’ve been wondering how all these creatures in the ocean are handling this oil spill . The Huffington post wrote a great many articles about the subject and they are pretty progressive . Anyhow..my thoughts for the day. See you at the show. BE THERE!! carpool have fun.

It’s that time again for The Sea No Evil Art show in Riverside, CA and the line up has gotten huge. Erin Swinfard has asked me back to paint a piece or two for the show. All this work is donated for the Sea Shepherd so that captain Watson can continue his work on the open ocean. The great thing is the Captain actually shows up. Last year Shepard Fairey played a amazing set.. it was a drive, but definitely worth it.
